  • Being a parent is a great blessing from God. There is  a mini version of yourself that you can shape and pass on your love, knowledge and insight to. Yet there are times when this blessing does not seem like much of a blessing.  As a parent, I know that this journey can sometimes be a tumultuous one but there is hope and you are not alone.

  • Scripture provides comfort, wisdom, and encouragement for parents.  During the good times and the bad times, God had provided everything we need for life and living and that includes parenthood. In the scriptures we find great encouragement for moms and dads.

1. For Overwhelmed Parents: Matthew 11:28-30

  • “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

  • Jesus encourages any and everyone who is overwhelmed and exhausted to come to him. His promise is one of rest and refreshing. I know that parenting is a 24 hour job and it often feels thankless but God sees and he cares. His cares about your well being and he wants you to fully trust him with your family and children.

  •  Pray this verse when feeling burned out or anxious. Cast your cares on him. Do what is required of you and leave everything else in the hands of God.

2. For Wisdom in Parenting Decisions: James 1:5

  • “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him”

  • God freely gives wisdom — a must-have for parenting! Wisdom is a gift from God. It is not just about intellectual knowledge but rather its a God-given understanding of how to navigate life and make good choices. God promises that when we ask he will equip us  with wisdom and the ability to discern right from wrong and make good choices.

  • Tip: Keep a prayer journal for parenting guidance. Write down all your concerns and parenting needs. You can also use this journal to express gratitude for your children and the things God has provided you with.

3. For Patience: Galatians 5:22-23

 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

  •  The Fruit of the Spirit include patience and kindness. These attributes are needed for rearing children in every time frame. However, this generation has unique challenges that parents have never had to go through. This is why God’s guidance and the filling of the spirit is essential. To raise Godly, well adjusted children we can rely on god to give us the correct attributes and behaviors to go along with the issues at hand.

  • It is important that we model godly behavior for our children. Our children are watching how we live our daily lives and can see if we respond with kindness and self-control. they can tell if we are genuinely kind and faithful and they follow what we do not just what we say. Parents have the responsibility to live Godly lives so children can mirror them and exude patience and kindness in their relationships with their peers and siblings as well.

  •  Use these verses as a daily affirmation or post it around your home. You can print it out and hang it in a picture frame or place it on your phone screen for easy accessibility.

4. For Strength: Philippians 4:13

  • “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

  •  You’re not parenting alone — It is Christ who strengthens you. Once you hold fast to this undeniable truth, know that in every situation God has your back and the outcome will be one of victory. In life things don’t always go as planned and parenting is a part of life. We are not exempt from the cares of the world but we know that we are more than able to conquer every storm that we face. I have gone through times of sickness and struggles with my daughter that I thought would never pass. However, looking back at the experiences I faced, it was God who kept me through it all. It was God who calmed me when I didn’t know how to handle the situations and I felt overwhelmed. He not only brought healing but He gave me peace when I needed it the most.

  • Meditate on this verse during tough moments like tantrums or exhaustion. Repeat it out loud and have your child do the same if they can.

5. For Teaching Your Children: Proverbs 22:6

 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

  • Having a  biblical foundation matters. Learning and knowing the word of God matters. Taking your child to church or children service matters. Even though they may be young and not be able to fully grasp everything the foundation of a Godly lifestyle will have an impact on them even when they are much older.

  • They are many people who have strayed from the teachings that their parents gave them yet when they have been in difficult situations the Word came alive in them and convicted them. The word is truth and if that truth is buried deep in their hearts from a young age no matter where they go or how far they stray, they will always come back to God and his principles. Don’t take it for granted that your child is young. Youth is no barrier to being filled with the spirit of God and working for Him.

  •  Use this scripture  to build a faith-centered home routine. Plan time reading scripture and praying with your children. let it be a important as eating or bathing and in time to come you will see the rewards of your labor.
