Women of Faith – Daughters of Zelophehad
The Daughters of Zelophehad
Women Of Faith
If ever there were a set of women who encourage others to be bold and stand up for what is theirs it would be these five women of faith. Though practically unknown, they shaped history with their strength and tenacity. Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah’s story can be found in the book of Numbers chapter 27.https://asavvyhouse.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=279&action=edit
They were descendants of Joseph and were members of the second generation who came out of Egypt. According to God’s original decree, the promised land was to be portioned according to the members of the second generation. However only men were counted. Their father died during the forty years in the wilderness and he left no sons who could inherit his wealth.
These five women were about to lose everything and be left without any possessions. As only male children could claim an inheritance.
So with a bold yet dangerous assurance, they went before Moses and Eleazar the priest and before all the elders to plead their case. They asked to be given a possession among their father’s brothers. Moses brought their case before the Lord who surely heard their cries. God agreed that for an order of inheritance, where there are no sons, daughters should have inheritance rights.

From that point on it, was instituted that if a man dies and leaves no sons then his inheritance should pass to his daughters.
Ask for what you want
These ladies took the risk and asked for what they wanted . They recognized that if they did not state their case and ask for what they wanted their futures were at stake. They not only changed the trajectory of their own lives but the lives of all who would come behind them. In this way, they paved the way for women of faith. Women who desire to stand up for what is right and to ask for what belongs to them. This ruling established a precedent for inheritance rights for women in the tribes of Israel. https://navigatingbyfaith.com/2024/03/19/untangling-american-christianity-from-americanism/
Jesus said to Ask
In the book of Matthew chapter 7 Jesus command his follower to ask, seek and knock. He said ‘for everyone who asks receives and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.’
